(I WANNA BE WITH YOU) BY THE SEA
Lyrics & Music: Ian McLeish
1.
I'd like to be by the sea with you -
Long hair against your skin so brown;
I'd like to hold you on a moonlit night -
Breathing in without a sound.
2.
I'd like to take you to a wonderland -
A place where no one else can go;
To know you love me without hearing it -
Would cure the aching in my soul.
Chorus 1.
And you know, I wanna be with you -
Where the sun floats down to meet the sea;
'Cause lady, I've got this need for you -
By your side's the only place I want to be.
3.
And when the forests whisper to the sky -
The song their singing is your name;
I know the love that's there behind your eyes -
And the mountains echo my refrain.
Chorus 2.
And you know, I wanna be with you -
Touch your face and never let you go;
Oh lady, don't set me free from you -
Your smile's the one reality I know.

(I Wanna Be With You) By The Sea - Ottawa,
Spring 1976
Inspired by Ian Petrie's 'Another Lonely Sunday', and written the same
night, this was the first love song I wrote that got a really positive
response. It connected with the ladies and was easy to perform - though
the lyric strikes me as a bit naive today. Still, it did it's job as a
good confidence builder for my writing.
