Lyrics & Music: Ian McLeish & James
H. Robinson
1.
Sitting all alone, playing my songs to an
empty room;
Sometimes my voice goes and gets a little
bit out of tune -
I can't help it, I've got tears in my eyes
-
I can't help it, I've got clouds in my skies
-
Over you...
2.
Your lies were something I could never see
through;
Sometimes I wish, baby, that it had been me
that burned you -
But the way you kissed me turned out to be
right -
And you got me wishing it would happen tonight
-
With you...
Bridge.
A year's come and gone since you said goodbye;
It looks like all your promises turned out
to be lies -
Baby, baby, you turned out to be
A master of disguise.
3.
Well I'm sitting here singing to an empty
room;
Sometimes my voice goes and gets a little
bit out of tune -
Most of the time I've got tears in my eyes
-
My verses don't rhyme, I've got clouds in
my skies -
Over you...

Master Of Disguise - Ottawa, Spring 1977.
Jim and I didn't write together that often. We
sort of had a Lennon and McCartney-type relationship, where one of us would
hear the other's latest song and that would be the inspiraton to come up
with something new, too... But Jim came to me one day with the first two
lines and the chords for the verses. I added the next two lines off the
top of my head, and we finished 'Master of Disguise' that day. Collaboration
is something I really enjoy.
