RADIO
Lyrics & Music: Ian McLeish
1.
I've been trying to get a record on the radio;
And I've got more than one reason to succeed, you know -
The girl of my dreams, went and left me, it seems
There's no chance of romance coming true -
But I'm not gonna cry and I don't want to get high
I'm just trying to get this record to you...
2.
Well I know they won't be listening at the Rolling Stone;
N.M.E. says I'm pretentious and the songs are too long -
But I write what I like, and I sing what I feel
And that is all that ever rings true -
I don't care what they say, I'm just making my way
And I mean to get this record to you
Bridge:
The program director says "No way
Don't want to hear no more rock'n'roll today;
Endless ripoffs of the same old song -
When will that new sound come along?"
I'm so tired of waiting, baby, waiting for you -
I'm so tired of waiting, baby, what can I do?
I'm so tired of waiting, baby -
I'm so tired of waiting oh-oh...
3.
Now I've got your attention, baby listen to me;
Broken hearted, I'll unlock it honey I've got the key -
Stop feeling so proud, turn up the radio loud
Love's precious when your chance is renewed -
And when we get to number one and we're having some fun
Then I'll know I got my message to you -
'Cause I'm trying - to get this record to you.

Radio - Ottawa, Winter 1978.
My one and only conscious attempt to write a
hit single. I threw in lots of musical cliches and wrote a lyric about
what I was trying to do. Well, at least I was honest about it...Though
the song wasn't released until years later, it's funny how many songs appeared
on the radio, about the radio, after it had been written! I guess it was
ahead of it's time.
