Words & Music: Ian McLeish
Chorus.
Something hit me right between the eyes -
Something really cut me down to size;
Something that you said, well it really wrecked
my head -
Something hit me right between the eyes.
1.
When you say 'I love you' -that's forever-
At least that's how your feeling at the time;
But some folks take it differently -
And end up getting hurt, you see -
Love's not quite the reason and the rhyme.
2.
There's oh so many words I should have spoken
-
And there's twice as many tears I should have
shed;
But in the end we're still alone -
Love's not the only game in town -
Life's short enough without an empty bed.
Chorus (repeat)
3.
No I can't remember how it feels to hold you
-
That sacred song is better left alone;
Time has a way of making peace -
Old memories can find release -
And a broken heart's a thing to leave at home.
Chorus (repeat)

(Something Hit Me) Right Between The Eyes -
Ottawa, Summer 1986.
This started out as a country song, but sometime
during the writing I discovered that the lyrics suited a reggae beat really
well. I had been a fan of Bob Marley and the Wailers since the 'Burnin''
album, and was very happy to be able to make my own contribution to the
genre. Chuck and John, pros that they are, had no problem getting the rhythms
right. Who says white boys can't groove?
