    If I did all the things I should have done -
    If I took back all the words I said ;
    If I counted all the tears I made you cry -
    Would it make a difference ?

    There's a subtle feeling hanging in the air
     I can't quite put my finger on ;
     If I described that feeling back to you
     It would come out wrong -
     Would it make a difference ?

     Don't look to love to answer all your pain ;
     A kiss has never cured a lie -
     Pretending things are fine's like
     Waiting for the words that say goodbye...

     If something isn't said, it slips away -
     Only the residue remains ;
     Hurt builds inside and cancels out the trust
     And round we go again -
     And it makes a difference.

     The magic slipped between our fingertips -
     Or was it ever really there ?
     Once spoken, words become like
     Deadly daggers hanging in the air -
     Tearing hearts apart without a care...

     So if I look at all the things I've done ;
     If I count your tears and add them up ;
     And if I figure out where I went wrong -
     Then it makes a difference.

Would It Make A Difference? - Ottawa, Winter 1990 & Manitoulin Island, Summer 1990.
This is one of my favourites of all my compositions, because the lyric really rings true. It's always tough when an affair or marriage breaks up. If I had done something differently, or if you had said things in another way, would we still be together? Probably not - by the time most people admit to the problems they're already too serious.   Realistically, what you learn stands you in good stead for the next time. After all, hope springs eternal...
